  1. Bring chicken broth to a rolling boil in a large pot.
  2. Add orzo and cook until tender, about 10 minutes.
  3. While orzo is cooking, whisk together lemon juice and eggs in a separate bowl.
  4. Once orzo is cooked, reduce heat to low and stir in the lemon-egg mixture to the pot. Stir continuously until soup is thickened, taking care not to let the eggs scramble.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. If using, stir in cooked shredded chicken and simmer for another five minutes until warmed through.
  7. Ladle soup into serving bowls and garnish with fresh parsley leaves.
  8. If using, add a sprinkle of grated lemon zest on top for an optional boost of citrus flavor.
  9. Serve warm with a slice of toasted bread on the side.
