  1. Start by preparing the meat. Place the meat into a large soup pot, add the water, and gently bring it to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer for an hour until the meat is tender.
  2. While the meat is simmering, start preparing the vegetables. Grate the beets, carrots, and finely chop the onion and cabbage.
  3. Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium heat, add onions and sauté until golden brown. Then add the grated beets and carrots. Cover the pan and let them simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Add the simmered vegetables and chopped cabbage to the soup pot with the meat. Add the chopped potatoes and canned beans too.
  5. Add salt and black pepper to taste. Following this, add the vinegar. Stir everything together and let it simmer for another 20 minutes until the vegetables are cooked.
  6. Just before turning off the heat, add the minced garlic cloves.
  7. Your Ukrainian Borscht is ready. Let it cool a bit before serving. Serve with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of fresh dill, if desired.
