  1. Over medium heat in a soup pot, combine the water and kombu and bring to a simmer. Do not let it boil.
  2. Once it has simmered, add the bonito flakes and let it simmer for about five minutes before removing from heat.
  3. Allow the bonito flakes to steep in the water for an additional 5 minutes, then strain out the flakes and kombu.
  4. Return the soup to a low heat. Spoon out some of the soup into a bowl and mix in the miso paste until smooth, then return it to the pot.
  5. Add tofu cubes to the soup and let it cook for a few more minutes.
  6. Remove from heat, stir in green onions.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy.
